ONLY ONE CONFUSING THING?????

So I thought it was an interesting and cool movie. But most of it didn't make much sense. Sure I'll suspend logic, but this movie is all over the place.

So were the women possessed by the painting? Or was it going to happen anyway?
Also there were two paintings (one with Selleck), but why?

Now how come two of the women were totally possessed by the witches, but the wife was only "PARTIALLY" possessed? She seemed to know who she was but couldn't control what she was "destined" to do?

Then at the last bar scene the women don't know why they're there and totally forget what happened. Except the wife kinda knows something's not right?

How about when the Nurse/Maid finds the check with her FAKE name on it. She doesn't realize the name on the check in the name that the WIFE asked if that was her name? But the women don't put that together?

Also how did that one woman just become the leader of a cult who was going to kill the husband and all his future ancestors? She's possessed out of the blue and has a bunch of people who do what she says?

That's just a few UNANSWERED questions... But I'm tired. lol

They aren't possessed. The witches made a pact/cast a spell to hunt down the man (and his offspring) who denounced the witches before they burned at the stake.

Their magic allows them to reincarnate, generation-after-generation, to murder the males who are descended from their denouncer. It is a curse that they fulfill throughout eternity to torture the man who commenced their burning.
