Neat DVD, sloppy pricing practice.

I don't get how Columbia picks the prices it charges for DVDs. I've always liked THE CREEPING FLESH, but don't see how the studio can justify charging $25 for a no-frills disk. For around that same price, Universal released their initial Classic Monsters DVDs stuffed to the gills with extra goodies. With Universal's recent release of their Monster Legacy DVDs (4-5 films, packed with extras, on double DVD sets for $19.99), Columbia's cutthroat price tags look even more ridiculous, and less enticing, than ever before.

I didn't know this was on DVD, but I would want it at a slightly lower price. I haven't compared recent discount prices anywhere yet. The price is the reason I haven't purchased Feind Without A Face. I can't justify paying $25-$30 for a basic DVD of an older movie. If it was a director's cut or had many extras, I'd consider it, but at that price, I'm not going to rush out and get it.

When other studios are releasing older movies at $15 or less, it's hard to seriously consider a basic DVD for $25. I don't care for double-sided DVDs, but look at the MGM Midnight Matinee series for about $10. I prefer the older, single-sided, single title releases. Now, I have to buy some titles a second time to get the second movie on the new editions. However, at $10, it's a minor annoyance.

When a single movie is over $25 (with little or no extras), I am more likely to simply wait for the movie to appear on DirecTV and use my DVD-R to record it. (TCM, FMC, Flix and Mystery have been good sources for some older, uncensored movies. Even Cinemax has shown a couple of sci-fi classics.) I will point out that DirecTV does not match the quality of a DVD so die hard fans may want to consider the commercial DVD anyway if they're picky about image quality.

Its DVDs like those that make me glad I never got rid of my VCR. Sure, I'd like to see the movie in widescreen and with a better picture quality, but I'm not going to pay $20+ for an old B-Movie that I can still watch on VHS (with the exception of The Blob, I dished out the $35 for that).

I agree. I saw this once on TV years ago late at night. It was great but not letter-boxed, the color was faded AND it was edited (pretty sloppy editing too). I'd love to see this in a complete letter-boxed version but I just refuse to pay over $20.00 for a disc with no extras at all. Really--does Columbia think people are so desparate to see this that they'll pay a ridiculously high price? I wonder how many of these were sold...

If you guys can play PAL discs, i highly recommend you get the UK version of this on DVD. It's released by trhe always reliable DD Entertainment and includes trailers, commentary with Christopher Lee and a 24 page booklet. It costs roughly the same as Columbia's disc and is better image quality too!

Plenty of Columbia's over-priced no frills DVDs end up in the bargain rack before it's all over. I picked up CREEPING FLESH for $6.00. Nice transfer but there is no trailer for it but for 3 other Columbia horror films.

I bought this at Amamzon about six weeks ago for about $10.00. That includes shipping and tax.
