Is there a finer giallo out there?

Finally got round to seeing this film. A while back I posted a rave comment about Lizard in a Woman's Skin. This is better, and probably the best giallo I've seen.

You shaid you wanted to know how to get Capone? Well here'sh how you get him...

I've seen a lot of giallos since I first saw this one. It still comes out on top for me! It's so melancholy and unsettling. Completely involving too.

I have to agree. This is perhaps the best giallo I have ever seen. I'm surprised it's not really all that well known. It shouldn't be buried amongst the rubble, it needs to be brought out to shine like the diamond it is in what is, at times, a very rough sea.

There's a lot of great giallos, but this one is the cream of the crop. If someone asks me to recommend giallos I always say this one first.

Pretty good, but better:

The Bird With The Crystal Plumage
A Lizard In A Woman's Skin
Oasis Of Fear
Don't Torture A Duckling

I didn't like Lizard, I don't remember why. I love Duckling though, thats a Top 5 giallo for me.

Deep Red (Profondo Rosso)

Don't ever forget Blood and Black Lace.

Run!Bitch!Run!

I need to see Blood and Black Lace! I can't believe that I haven't yet.

I agree -- WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO SOLANGE is probably the best giallo I've ever seen. Very good film that needs a DVD/Blu-Ray re-release ASAP!

If you liked Cosa avete fatto a Solange? and high quality cinema, I strongly recommend La polizia chiede aiuto (1974), also by Massimo Dallamano. It's not exactly a pure giallo but it contains some gialli elements and most importantly it's an amazing piece of cinema. My only complain: too short! Could have done with an additional 15 or 20 minutes like Solange.

I've never watched it as a giallo, as it is always presented as a part of the Edgar Wallace movie series in Germany and compared to the others in that series this one was crap (although most of the others movies have only been mediocre, but some have been really good and atmospheric crime/mystery movies) as it not only lacks all the naïve charm of the classic German Edgar Wallace movies but also doesn't have anything to do with Edgar Wallace (especially the story which the German title of the movie is referring to). I found it a rather dull movie (despite the basically good story at its core) with way too much female nudity (which reminded me more of the Lederhosen- and other 70s German soft porno movies than Edgar Wallace movies).

Of course if you're a fan of giallos (and don't mind if they're gory) I'm sure you'll possibly enjoy it. But as an Edgar Wallace movie it's just disappointing (it definitely would be better if the would change the German title and stopped showing it as part of the German Edgar Wallace film series).
