The "Authenticator"

Well now we know what became of Wonder Woman's magic rope. It was confiscated and turned into a government "lie detector".

Of all the problems there are with this film, this was the silliest one IMHO. A magic device that "makes people tell the truth". They have technology for this but they haven't seemed to grasp the concept of ID computer chips to track apes.

I don't even know enough to know how much I don't know. Ya know?

There were no computer chips when the film was made. It is unfair to criticize the film in hindsight because they got a few things wrong about the future.

I wasn't criticizing because of no chips. i was just trying to add humor. But seriously, don't you think the "authenticator" is a rather shabby plot convenience?

I don't fixate on minor details so it doesn't really bother me that much.

This is a 1972 movie set nineteen years in the future in 1991.

Even in 1972 there was suggestion voice stress analyzers would soon be used to determine if someone is telling the truth. There are also any of ways to make someone tell the truth, electric shock, exposure to load noises and others that are low tack enough to be known about in seventy two.

Even in the seventies electronic tracking systems were being developed. By 1991 tracking chips were being implanted in animals could even be put in people.

Beware if your flu shot looks a bit lumpy.

And this movie is science fiction, the operative word being fiction.

Yes and there is an intense torture scene later in the film using electric shock. The impact of that scene would have been diminished if there were a similar one earlier in the film. Plus latter scene has an ape being tortured, doing the same to a human would have assured an R rating for the film.
