Location: Major Flaw??

Either I missed something, or there is a major plot flaw with the setting of this movie. Doesn't this movie take place in L.A.? The problem with that is, in the original POTA, Beneath, and Battle movies, the city beneath is New York, and Ape City is just outside it. In Battle, they go back to the ruins of the city, which is clearly New York, so that is where Conquest had to take place.

So where did I get the idea that this one was in California? It couldn't have been.

take a look at this thread I started over at the BATTLE FOR THE PLANET OF THE APES board some time ago.

I was asking a few things but the question about location was one of my concerns in the post.

Two of the comments there (JAMES and UNCLE ENTITY) disputed that Conquest and Battle were located on the west coast. They ascertain that there is never a mention of the west coast in the two films and I think they are correct.

look over this thread TENNCHIC and please comment!

'Escape' takes place in LA. Armando runs a traveling circus and, for some reason, arrives with Caesar in Manhattan via helicopter.

The only indication in this movie of where they are is North America.

You are entitled to my opinion, whether you want it or not!!

"Battle" takes place in Manhattan and it's a continuation of "Conquest." It makes sense that Caesar's legacy would be based in NYC all the to the point where Taylor finds the statute of Liberty.

reply

Not disagreeing with your analysis, just saying that at the beginning of Conquest it simply states North America!

reply

Very true Alan. There is nothing in Conquest, film or script, to indicate the location of the city it takes place. However, when taking Battle into account it is clear that both films take place somewhere on the east coast not the west coast.

reply

Agreed. The LA connection comes from "Escape" and the TV series which is set on the west coast.

reply

I know. Some assumed that Conquest took place in the west coast because Escape took place there. But at the end of Escape Armando is heading to Florida.

True

This movie was obviously filmed around LA, but was set near the same area where "Battle" took place. "Escape" took place in LA, but Caesar had travelled with Armando's circus his entire life after that.

reply

I think it's all because of Escape being in LA and Conquest filmed in LA with those LA-ians buildings.

By the way, why do Armando and Caesar arrive by helicopter????? Are they some VIPs? Or is it that kind of police state that only some people are allowed in and those few who do, must be escorted personally and go through some kind of tight control (which is not shown)??

reply

Armando's circus mainly stuck to the rural areas, but apparently they were running low on funds and had to perform in a city. They arrived there to advertise for their coming performance.

reply

Which makes me wonder even more, by helicopter?

reply

It was to save time, instead of arriving the conventional way, go back and then return with the circus.

reply

Fletcherj119: The film in fact was actually shot in the newly-constructed Century City because of its futuristic appeal back at that time.

reply

Yah, it's obvious watching it now, since we've seen it in countless movies and TV shows. But it was brand new at the time. If you didn't live in that area, it would've looked unique when the movie was released.

reply

I don't see what the issue is here. Why does it HAVE to all take place in the same area of the map? Didn't it occur to you that they just...moved?
