Anguirus

I have not seen this movie in many years, but I have read online that the Anguirus in this movie is a new Anguirus, and not the same one that battled with Godzilla in "Godzilla Raids Again." Is this actually stated anywhere in the movie, or it just an assumption made by fans after the seeming demise of the original Anguirus?

reply

It's a very safe assumption. The first one died, and if one existed, it's not unreasonable to assume there could be two.

In the Trivia section, they explain how GHIDORAH was able to appear here despite dying in a previous installment. Maybe that also applies to ANGUIRUS?

reply

Except that Destroy All Monsters took place in 1999, whereas this movie takes place in 1972. So Ghidorah still being alive is actually accurate.

Whether or not this is the same Anguirus is never stated, but fans usually assume it is because they assume the Anguirus in Raids Again was killed. However, in the Japanese version of Raids Again, they never say Anguirus was killed, only "defeated." Plus, Anguirus only had his neck bit and was burned by Godzilla's atomic breath, while in later films he is seen surviving much more gruesome injuries, so it's possible Anguirus did survive Raids Again.
