(Spoilers) How This Film Differs Slightly From Other Zombie Films...

A few people have commented on the fact that those killed by the living dead in this film don't become reanimated themselves, which is unusual for these films, but I also noticed when watching it recently that not a single one of the zombies is successfully taken out, or even appreciably injured.

Would shooting them in the head have worked do you think?

As these creatures were very much physical, it's hard not to imagine fire or dismemberment causing them some serious problems, but I suppose we'll never know...

Since the zombies were raised by Satanic means, I don't think they could be so easily killed. Unless you completely burned or dismembered them, what's to prevent The Devil from bringing them back to life?

reply

Yes, I suppose unlike most zombies in the post-NOTLD era, these beings had a supernatural origin.

I wonder what became of them once they went ashore in Miami...

reply

Haha... oh yeah, I've always wondered just where did the zombies go? Too bad Bob Clark and Alan Ormsby didn't make a sequel but I still love the ending. After NOTLD and Lucio Fulci's "Zombie", this is my fave of the genre.

I read an interview with the actor who played 'Orville' a while back, and he said the ending was a deliberate set up for a sequel that never happened. Damn shame!

reply

So true! Slightly off-topic but have you seen Bob Clark's other horror movies "Deathdream" and "Black Christmas"? Both are excellent in their own right and make for great viewing (along with "Children") on dark lonely nights!

reply

I've seen 'Black Christmas' (once when I was very young and the way they kept cutting to that poor dead girl in the attic stayed with me for a long time!), and again more recently on DVD. It did seem way ahead of the curve with regard to slasher films.

I've not seen 'Death Dream' yet, but I intend to!

reply

Cool.
