Worst film i have ever seen !

I must say i really did not like this film, i know it is supposed to be surreal and indifferent to other films and it succeeds in that sense, but personally when i watch a film, i want it to be entertaining, i want to be gripped by what is on the screen, in many more ways than just one, not just having a decent storyline, which this film doesnt have, at least not a conventional one. When i watched this film i was willing something interesting to happen, but that never came, the ending did, to which i was both happy because it was over and disappointed, because i just watched the most pointless and unenjoyable film i have ever watched. Im sure that it is a very unique idea and was directed adeqautely, but it isn't the sort of film that a majority of people will like, myself included.

I personally think the film is brilliant. I agree that most pepole will find it dull and pointless, unless they are open to unconventional and avant-garde films like Bunuel's first film: Un Chien Andalou. It does require a certain knowledge about the surrealism movement in film. I suggest that before watching Bunuel's film try to read something about him and get the idea behind his cinema.

Maybe you didn't get all the jokes? It's a very funny film... Or maybe the humor was lost in translation?

"having a decent storyline, which this film doesnt have, at least not a conventional one."

Why would you watch a Bunuel movie expecting a "conventional" storyline? It's like going to Taco Bell expecting to eat hamburgers.

Really? You got sex, drug smuggling, torture, ghosts, murder, adultery, gunfire... What more do you want? Explosions? A car chase?

- A point in every direction is the same as no point at all.

It seems to me that you're a kid or some stupid *beep* that don't know a *beep* of this
Maybe you're not prepared to watch this kind of film
Why don't you watch a Steven Seagull film or a Jackie Chan film those are more easy to understand for people like you that don't know a *beep* of this
ok?
I'm sorry for you

I think one of the serious problems that people would have with this film is not any of the light surrealist points, but with the history that goes along with it. It is an era in French history when disasterous wars had been hitting France: Indochine and Algerie. While this death and student protest of the 1960s was building, you have a completely useless class in society. The characters are supposed to do nothing. What are their worries? They shouldn't have any since they are firmly placed in the bourgios lifestyle. Bourgois means both 'middle class' but it also means 'silly' or 'useless.' If you think of all the useless celebrities who exist for no reason, then you can see how these people live. The Lt. tells the story of how he commits patricide, yet the biggest worry is there is no tea. As much as it is a joke, it is also serious.

Oh, I did like this film, but it was not great. Buñuel fans need to see 'Viridiana' to really get an insight into his ideas and feelings.

Jeez people! Chill out! All he was saying is that he didn't enjoy the film and that it isn't a good mainstream film! I mean, nobody can argue either of those points... Disliking this film is certainly a valid opinion, and just because somebody doesn't like surrealism doesn't mean they're idiots or something! Don't be so defensive - it just looks bad... If he had said it was a horrible film then that would be something to get defensive about, but all he said was that he didn't like it, so what's wrong with that?

Well, to be fair the title of the thread is "Worst film i have ever seen !"

But, as already stated, this film is definitely not for everyone. I wasn't impressed the first time I saw it, not knowing anything about Buñuel or surrealism, but it's grown on me since. I suggest the thread starter wait a few years and give it another chance...

Yep, is merely a matter of opinion, but i also appreciate your opinions in that it is a 'good' film. Maybe i shouldn't of said it will never be liked by the masses because that is kind of a given, however thats not the point i was really making. I don't mind surrealist films, and to say that i have no knowledge of this genre is misguided as i have a degree in film studies, although that might not make me Hitchcock, it certainly gives me the right to voice my opinion. I'm a fan of dialogue driven films myself, or action, but certainly not Steven Segal! The reason i even commented that this is the worst film that 'I' have ever seen is that i watched it and then have never had such an urge to come on IMDB and write something about it, if only to say its the worst film i've ever seen. It does however leave a mark on the memory, but personally i'm going to leave all the 'surreal' people to purchase the dvd's and posters.

If you're looking to be gripped by what is on the screen, or even to have a decent storyline, this film isn't going to score with you. The first time I watched I was waiting for the story to cohere, or for something to happen to move the plot forward, and I was somewhat disappointed. The second time I watched it, having abandoned such expectations, I found it absolutely hilarious. This is a prime example, to quote Robert Altman, of a movie that "needs to be seen once just to get the lay of the land."
