Watching the special once again this year we noticed that the "feast" that the kids and Snoopy made included the following items:
- buttered toast
- pretzel sticks
- popcorn
- jelly beans
- a cup of something pink with what looked like either ice cream with whipped cream and a cherry or jello with whipped cream and a cherry on top
I wonder what that last item was supposed to be?

Peppermint Patty says she's upset that the feast includes A piece of toast, A pretzel stick. There was plenty more than one piece.

Hmm, now that I look more carefully, there IS only one pice of toast there from one angle, but from another, there's two.
Anyway, it all depends anyway.. you could say..

I saw this Peanuts special a few times in the late 1970s and early 1980s, and did like it. But it was not on every Thanksgiving, the way their Halloween and Christmas specials were on right before those holidays. And I don't think I got to see it since the mid 1980s. If it is on DVD I will watch it as soon as get this acess, but what I remember about it is what you said, that how Peppermint Patty and Marcy come over to his place on Thanksgiving, and were served snack foods, including popcorn. They were really eating it, and she then did riot and asked where the real Thankgiving food was (then saying turkey, dressing, pumpkin pie). Marcy then made her realize she really invited herself, and it was not his fault. Everything then ends happily (of course, this is Peanuts), but I have thought about this special's meal some in recent years, because every Thanksgiving Day from 1968 through 1996 we had a typical big meal at our house my mother had cooked. We then moved in January, 1997, but I went to a family friend's on Thanksgiving Day in 1997 and ate some of this food, then to a buffet restaurant for in on TD in 1998, 1999, and 2000. I'd also gone to a movie later on TD in 1999 and 2000 and did eat popcorn as well, but went to a movie only in 2001 and ate popcorn. This was the first TD I did not eat the typical food on it. I then did not in 2002, 2004, and 2005 either (did go to buffet in 2003). I did not go to movies these years, had thought of it, but will this Thanksgiving, and will get popcorn, and nothing else that day. So even though I understand Peppermint Patty's point, and she was really correct, popcorn is really my typical Thanksgiving meal now. And I could really relate to this scene in this special (though it would've seemed totally out of place to me in the 1970s, 1980s, 1990s).

The real kick in the ass is that Snoopy was clearly able to make a traditional feast and just didn't. After the kids leave he and Woodstock (who is a cannibal) devour a turkey dinner.

Wasn't that ice cream sundaes? That was supposed to be the dessert. Well, that would fit a Thanksgiving dinner, or any dinner.
shareI thought that those "sundaes" were actually Jell-O salad parfaits. They're made by combining whipped cream or non-dairy topping like "Cool Whip" with Jell-O and sometimes fruit, like white trapes. In the '70s, my grandmother made that stuff every Thanksgiving and Christmas. It would have been easy enough for Snoopy to make.

Like someone else said, it was supposed to be sundaes. But if they did this meal today, just imagine the name brands of the foods they'd use to make it. For instance:
1. Toast made of whole-wheat bread buttered with I Can't Believe It's Not Butter!
2. Rold Gold Pretzels
3. ACT II or Orville Redenbacher popcorn
4. Jelly Belly jellybeans
5. Breyer's Ice Cream for the sundaes
