microwave oven on train?

umm... was that a microwave oven on the train when what's-his-face buys what's-her-name lunch -- and she gives it to some kid?

What exactly is your question? Can you rephrase it?

well, what's-her-name takes a refrigerated sandwich of some kind (hamburger?) and places it, wrapped, in what looks like an early "radar range" oven.

i think my question was phrased as plain as the live-long day -- was it indeed a *microwave* oven?

reply

yeah -- 40,000 were in circulation by 1970 and a million by 1975.

but... it might be the earliest seen in a movie? i mean, the earliest seen in an incredibly bad movie? :)

reply

Yea, I think microwaves ovens first went on sale in the 1950s but they were large oversized units only for institutional use. Microwaves for home use went on sale sometime in the early 1960s. As for the first time in a movie, I remember hearing one mentioned (I can't remember if it was shown) in the over rated movie "Seconds" by the over rated director John Frankenheimer.

It might have been a Stewart Sandwich cooked in a Stewart Infrared. I remember getting hot dogs at a public pool in the mid-late 60s that way.
