I would love to own this movie on DVD with remastered picture and sound.
I recorded it once on vhs from a tv broadcast, still have it but my VCR is broken...
This movie is masterful, great script and acting... I wish mexican film makers from today were able to make a movie like this, I´m tired of the cliched mexican films of these times.
Desert Mountain has released this DVD on region 1. In its original spanish with english subtitles. No extras except some trailers for other movies.
Sadly the quality of the DVD is poor. 1st of all the image have been cropped, it's presented in "Fool Screen" 1.33:1. The contrast is quite bad during the darker scenes. The audio is not in better shape. There are lot of hiss during whole the movie.
Having said all that, I still would recommmend this movie, if only as a rental. The film is amazing, boasting wonderful perfomances by Claudio Brook, Rita Macedo and Diana Bracho in her first big role. Plus brief appearances by the great David Silva and a very young and sexy María Rojo.
If you are fan of Arturo Ripstein, this is a must see. One of his finest works. If just this film could receive the treatment that it deserves with audio and video restored and remastered...
