Offers much more than the rest

The Carry on films had a decent start in life in the 50's, being on par with the old Ealing black and whites but really descended into just thin smut by the 70's.

This film is different though and I liked it a lot. It takes the familiar hospital setting and almost turns it on it's head. The plots are no longer short story like affairs from the point of view of the patients but it focuses on the hospital staff with the unexpected theme of a heist thrown in.

This makes the film much deeper than most of the other cornball Carry On Films and a highly enjoyable experience. It looks good too, the sets and costumes are quite colourful and just nice to look at plus everyone in their respective roles adds a nice sense of familiarity to the whole thing.

Carry On Films were never meant to be taken seriously. They have more value now as being a slice of the time they were made and it's fun to look at it from that perspective but when compared to the others Carry On Matron is actually a decent film in it's own right with much more going for it than most anything that came after.
