A bit tawdry indeed!--Spoilers

I think what goes unmentioned a lot in the critiques of this movies is just how tawdry it is.

First, the girl that dies is only 15. We first see her in a short skirt, blood running down her legs. Next, we see her nude on the slab ready for an autopsy. The actress has no body makeup to look dead, she looks pleasantly sleepy and one can't help wonder why she was not made up to look dead. We even get a titty shot. One can't help to think that was supposed to be a bit salacious. Wouldn't it have been more appropriate for her to be white, lifeless, gone, and more to the point of the movie? Then there is the little fantasy insert of her in a little bikini dancing in the waves. Huh? Regardless, I felt uncomfortable with a character who is really a child presented this way. Kind of left a bad taste.

The young girl roommate talking--as Carey points out about herself--of threesomes and orgies and other nasties.

Let's not forget the homo-erotic massage scene, which is nonsensical as it is prurient, with sweat and groans and bulging muscles and smirks about homosexual partnering.

I see why some critics laugh at this movie and some of the outrageous situations--but laughing at the film and certainly not in a black comedy sort of way. This is played straight..

Still, I believe there's a good movie buried in here somewhere. I believe this suffers from what I have named the "4 out of 5 Syndrome." Meaning? This needed 5 re-writes and they stopped at 4.
