If the Emcee had to be played by a woman...
...who would you want? I'd choose Katherine Kastin.
Dear BBC, when are you going to show Nuts On The Road? NIM - NIM - NIM!!!

If the Emcee is played by a woman, it would completely change the dynamic of "Two Ladies."
shareNot really. The Emcee is a performer, and is bisexual.
And besides, one of the 'Two Ladies' is played by a man!

Which one would you choose to be?
...one of the "Two Ladies" is played by a man.

I've seem this misstatement more than once. Never in the original stage version or the
film is that true. There is one cross-dressing character, Frauein Elke, but he is not
one of the two ladies.
In the Sam Mendez production one of the "Two Ladies" is a man.
shareWe did a version of it in our high school, I was just in the final show tonight and the Emcee was played by a girl, I found it was a little more... I don't know, she seemed to capture a side of the Emcee that a man can't (Manly but also feminine at the same time) I find from what I've seen, a girl captures t best though Allan Cummings did a great job!
shareI was actually thinking about that the other day. She'd be an older woman, like the madame of a brothel. Like, the older version of Sally, who completely lost herself in the cabaret life, playing up her masculinity or femininity to suit the number. As to who would play that, no names leap to mind, except Cate Blanchett, too bad she can't sing. Joan Crawford actually might have been able to pull something like that off, though she never got to play up the drag aspect like Greta Garbo did.

You lived what anybody gets, Bernie. You got a lifetime.
Brilliant, inspired. I actually came here thinking Sandra Bernhard but Ute! Wow!
She is multi-talented but her talent is wasted, and seeing her in concert convinced me she is mad, but in a good way.
Edit: her talent is not wasted..it is under-utilised by producers.

lady gaga?
Someone stated about "Two Ladies" not being a problem. Well possibly not but the lyric would have to be re-written because the third line is "and I'm the only man". Also some one said about one of the two ladies being a man. As far as I know this was only done in the revival, and kept a secret from the audience until the finale, and so is irelevent to this agument.
