Butterflies vs. Breezy?

I've never seen this movie, but some of the comments here remind me of an (I think) under-rated movie called Breezy, that had a simple '70s vibe, too. I liked Breezy because it had an optimistic message in the end, to live life. Is this movie similar to that?

reply

Not in my opinion. BAF is basically a love story between 2 contemporaries. Breezy is all about the age thing, and how that complicates a love relationship.

Breezy is a windy bore; a pointless home movie; Kay Lenz doesn't compel and Wiliam Holden looks and acts tired. Butterflies Are Free is funny, touching and charming Edward Albert's career never fulfilled what this movie promised; he's thoroughly credible and creates a real person. Hawn is delightful without being mannered and Eileen Heckert won an Oscar.

reply

Yes...the two movies are only similar in that they're from the early 70's, and have a "hippie" undercurrent. I've always adored Goldie Hawn, and had a crush on her back in the 70's. However when Lenz bared her body in Breezy...there was no comparison to Hawn.

I thought "Breezy" was a wonderful movie. William Holden and Kay Lenz were terrific as were the rest of the cast. BTW...Shelley Winter's deserved the Oscar that year not Eileen Heckert.

reply

Shelly was great, but Eileen was better in my opinion. Breezy was okay. Didn't really hold my attention honestly, but I loved Butterflies are Free, and I consider it one of the better movies of the seventies.

Yes, Breezy is an old guy's wet dream, unfortunately on film
