Coach Halas' tearfull expression (?)

Do you know how some people have a funny-looking expression on their face when they cry? Like Laura Dern in Blue Velvet?

I remember watching this film in the early 80s after Brian gets sick. The whole audience is weeping pretty hard, but there is an embarrassing moment where we giggled. It was seeing the expression on poor Coach Halas' face when he was crying too. But I can't find the scene when I'm watching it on cable.

Am I thinking of a different film?
