Cinematic Titanic's First Offering!

Brain of Blood will be the movie for the initial offering from Cinematic Titanic. CT is a new movie riffing ensemble, headed by Joel Hodgson of Mystery Science Theater 3000 fame.
Go on ahead, Joel!

Like anything by Al Adamson, this one should be ripe for riffing.

I believe the next Al Adamson movie they should do is DRACULA VS. FRANKENSTEIN..A lot worse than BRAIN OF BLOOD(or THE OOZING SKULL)...

Cinematic Titanic = "MST3K 3.0"

I look forward to it.

We got movie sign! One of the stars is Grant Williams, who played the
Incredible Shrinking Man (he was also in The Leech Woman, which MST3K
riffed). Last film he ever did.

So how is the CT version, any good?

I am the master...and the commander!

reply

I just watched it. The movie is funny in itself and the riffing is sometimes hilarious and sometimes dull. Five people riff on the movie instead of three: we see their silhouettes on the bottom and side of the screen.

"Cinematic Titanic" has no sketches before or after the movie. We do get interruptions for brief sketches, but we never leave the movie theater. The movie pauses, and something happens in shadow. For instance, Trace commands the movie to stop as a woman with too much make-up is in close-up. He gets a mop and a bucket and tries to wipes some of it off.

I'm watching the Cinematic Titanic version right now. 15 minutes into it, and it's dang funny! Spend the $15 and get it. Just the 5 second Stephen Hawking "cameo" alone is worth the price of admission.

reply

The thing that makes this movie so riveting is that it REALLY makes me care about the characters.

This just in- Joel answered 40 questions about CT. The "Slinky" voice Joel did (IMO, the funniest part of CT001) was supposed to be Eric the Midget!

Though this is their first release,CT do get better. As evidenced in ALIEN FACTOR and WAR OF THE INSECTS.They realized that doing a live version is a lot better and funnier because they get feedback from the audience and get to ad-lib if necessary. The studio versions are good, but somehow seem a little stiff and the host segments are either cute or forgettable.I would like to see them redo this one in a live setting. All in all,I'm just glad that Joel and the rest are back, doing what they do best! I hear RATTLERS and ASTRAL FACTOR are hilarious,by the way..As far as THE FILM CREW..meh..so so.The funniest one they did was KILLERS FROM SPACE..

I like the studio versions better. The audience will laugh at anything even if they cough. They have 10 features posted on Hulu now for cheap people like me. My favorites so far have been Doomsday Machine and Wasp Woman. Looking forward to watching this one, just wanted to pass it on. And there are also 10 Rifftrax features and many Rifftrax shorts posted on Hulu now.

Just finished this one, not a big fan of them keeping all that graphic blood, made me wonder off on other things.

I saw Brain of Blood on TV when I was a little kid, circa 1975. I never forgot it, and every MSTK season that went by I was always disappointed they didn't do it. I haven't seen the CT episode, but I'm sure it's a pale shadow of what could have been if the MST crew in their prime had at it.

EDIT:

Well, this is ironic. I bought CT's first DVD as soon as it released, but for whatever reason I never got around to watching it and eventually lost it. The name of the movie they riffed on was The Oozing Skull. I never knew until just now it was an alternate title for Brain of Blood... I would have watched it the second it was in my hands!
