SPOILERS...Surprising Character Fate

Since the movie is based on a Bram Stoker story, perhaps it couldn't be changed for the movie (if it happened in the book, obviously), but the boyfriend's quick and sudden demise caught me completely off guard.

I really assumed he would save Margaret somehow in the end, but, boy, he really bought the farm in a big way moments after he went off for help. At least he had the right idea to get out of that nuthouse and bring someone back. A kill-off of the main male romantic interest is so rarely done in movies (short of slashers) unless it happens right at the climax.
