Actual filming year?

When was this film actually made? It was released in 1971 but I suspect it was filmed much earlier. Billy Mumy looks much younger in this film than he does in the film Rascal which was released in 1969. I suspect this was made around 1967. Anyone with more info?

This movie was filmed during the summer of 1970 in an actual boys summer camp called Hidden Valley Ranch near Prescott, AZ. and on Santa Catalina Island off the coast of Southern California for the Bison herd and preserve scenes.

Thanks but I think it was film earlier. The difference in Billy's looks say that 1970 is not possible when you view photos of him in Rascal.

reply

Nope it was 1970. The book was published earlier that year.

Hi. Not that this really matters but if you do look at the photos of Billy in Beasts and compare them to his photos in Rascal, you can plainly see that Billy is more mature in Rascal than in Beasts. Rascal was out in 1969 so if you go by the photos [ have you looked at them - check CVMC] Beasts was filmed first. I believe this film was made mid '60s and sat on the shelf as some films do and then released later.

Bless the Beasts and Children was filmed in 1970 per the book "The Buffalo Book" and plus the fact that the book wasn't published until January of 1970."Rascal" was published a few years earlier and Bill Mumy was more mature in Bless the Beasts because was 16 at the time of filming.

Peggy is correct about the filming. To be exact, principal photography began on August 3, 1970 in Prescott, Arizona at the Hidden Valley Ranch as well as exteriors near Jerome and Sedona. After permission was withdrawn to film the buffalo in Arizona, the company moved to Catalina Island for the buffalo sequences. And then, finally on a sound stage at Columbia Pictures where filming ended on September 24th.
The film was based on the book, Bless The Beasts & Children written by Glendon Swarthout.

Bless the Beasts WAS FILMED IN THE SUMMER OF 1970!!!!!!!!

Don't ask the question if you don't want the answer.
You've had 4 different people tell you this and you still say you're right. But you are absolutely wrong. How do I know? Because I actually worked on this film.
I worked for a company called Independent Casting and I cast the extras for the film.
So maybe Billy looked younger or older to you. I don't know, but the fact is this film began principal photography in July of 1970.
