This movie is Amazing.

This movie is one of the most under-rated films ever. I loved it! I think Ossie Davis did an excellent job directing this film. And the cast, Next Level. I LOVE this movie

I agree. I love this movie.

I agree, I think this movie is good.

Sometimes, the acting was over dramatic but that was because of the time.

My favorite scene of the movie is when the young college woman comes home; all of the sisters "gang up" on her, making her feel bad. That scene is realistic.

I've only watched the first half of the movie, but I thought it was amazing!

I'm also eternally grateful that my family isn't like Billie Jean's.

Even the most useless person can serve as a bad example.

This was one of my favorites. I think it was based off a play wasn't it?

BLACK GIRL (1972)

Made its cable premiere on Turner Classic Movies as of January 16, 2012.

Did you know that this movie is 40 years old? TCM is showing this for the first time uncut and in the letterbox format the way you saw it in the theatres back in 1972.

BLACK GIRL remains one of the most under-rated movies ever made during the decade of the blaxploitation movement of cinema. Ossie Davis does an excellent job here with a fine cast featuring Gloria Edwards, Brock Peters, Rhetta Greene, and Claudia MacNeil and introducing Peggy Petit. It's basically the black version of CINDERELLA but the setting is the community and the mean streets of Watts in South Central Los Angeles, circa 1972. Fine performances which takes this movie to the next level.

Also during this feature, look out for actor Nathaniel Taylor in this film as a hard-knocking pimp. Nathaniel Taylor, for those who may not know this talented actor, was best known for his television work as Rollo on the hit TV-series "Sanford and Son".

Being that this movie came out in 1972,the same year that "Sounder",and "Lady Sings The Blues" was released.
