I watched this film this past Monday the 18th, on TCM. The first time I saw it was also on TCM during a marathon of Blaxploitation films from the '70's. This time the theme was films with all Black casts.

The movie always gets to me for many reasons.

Claudia McNeil played the mother in 'A Raisin in the Sun'. For that reason alone I'll watch anything she's in.

Brock Peters. Always gives a good or great performance.

The cruelty of sisters (Norma & Ruth Ann) to Billie Jean is disturbing. You're heart breaks for her.

Trying to understand what was going on with the 3 mothers (M'Dear, Rose & Netta's mom (Ruby Dee) was confusing because not enough backstory was given for any of them. Doesn't make the film any less enjoyable though.

Peggy Pettit. The character Billie Jean, was a true survivor of her environment. I wish the actress had more film credits because I enjoyed her performance.

* Gloria Edwards, who played Norma, was married to actor Dick Anthony Williams, who may not be known by name, but certainly by face. She died much to soon in 1988- 6 months before her 44th birthday.

I personally think they could have nominated Gloria Edwards, Claudia McNeil, or Louise Stubbs for Best Supporting Actress! All three were that good!
