Fassbinder, Pasolini, and re-creating Art.

'Petra von Kant' is not one of my favorites, but is an essential in Fassbinder's oeuvre. His choice to use a lesbian relationship, rather than homosexual or heterosexual, was only proving the "exploitation of feelings" can happen to any couple. This was, of course, was much to the chagrin and backlash of feminists in the 70's.

Anyways....to my point:

Fassbinder juxtaposes Petra and Karin to the giant wall of artwork in the apartment: this gave me chills. It wasn't until last evening I noticed Pasolini, in 'Porcile', accomplishes the same device with his Neo-Nazi businessmen. Obviously a fan of the Italian director-as he cites 'Salo' in his Top Ten List-Fassbinder appears to pay homage in Petra von Kant.

Anyone know other another director(s) that originated this idea or have capitalized on it?

Thanks!

I only know some films inspired by paintings(as "a strong visual influence") like Hitchcock/ Psycho/ Edward Hopper’s House by the Railroad or Pieter Bruegel the Elder’s The Tower of Babel and Fritz Lang’s Metropolis.
