Bergman-esque portrait of a damaged phyche

Reminded me very much of Bergman's work such as The Silence and Through a Glass Darkly, and to a great extent From the life of Marionettes and Autumn Sonata.

The intimate setting and talky narrative skilfully put together and the film although one paced is thoroughly entrancing through out. Fassbinder again portrays woman as complicit in their own troubles as we have a slave, a love crazed and obsessed widow, and a greedy slutty rinser.

Great work.

I was reminded way more of Dreyer then Bergman. To a lesser extent, Ozu as well.
