Taped off t.v.

Hello!
Did anyone out there ever tape this movie off t.v. when it was shown as SON OF BLOB? If so, please get in touch as there are scenes shown that ARE NOT in the dvd release. Thanks!
Jim

I used to watch this on TV late, late at night about 25 years back and it was always called BEWARE! THE BLOB. SON OF BLOB was the VHS release I would rent in the early - mid 80s. I recall nothing different in either version and have seen all known cuts. Please give an example of the differences you note. Maybe there is a cut I've never seen.

I grew up in Pennsylvania and one of the local channels broadcast this movie under the SON OF BLOB name. I remember being surprised by this as every other time it was under the "Beware" title. Anyway, there was a brief scene of the boy scout camp being attacked and everyone running around in chaos. There is a discrepancy with the running time on the dvd and the original release. When I met Larry Hagman a couple of years back I asked him about it and he just kind of laughed it off.

I posted on another thread that I think I have all known VHS and DVD versions of both SON OF and BEWARE! as well as seen it on TV numerous times (mostly in the early to mid 80s on the late show) and this scene has never surfaced in any of the handful of versions I have owned or seen in the passed 25 years. I'm a die hard Blob fan yet I don't presume to question you- it's possible there is a version I missed seeing or buying, but I don't think so. I could only believe this if there was proof- which is something I think you are looking for to confirm what you remember seeing. I figure Hagman probably would laugh off any questions or comments about SON OF THE BLOB since I'm sure he regrets ever making it these days. Still, a great movie. Any good trivia about the movie he was able to tell you, or was he reluctant to talk about it?

I saw Beware the Blob!(1972) on UHF TV in 1990. Gwynne Gilford is a cute woman! I'd risk my neck to protect her from The Blob!

Is that 'And the Band Played On' when Robert Walker Jr. turns on the sound system? Robert Walker Sr. "sang" it in Strangers on a Train(1951).

just curious are you sure you are not mixing up that boy scout scene with a similar one that occurred in the film Without Warning (which was also back in 1981?

99% of you people send me PM's with questions and never bother to check that I replied to them.

Hey! Thanks for responding. I am 99% sure it was under the name SON OF BLOB; a friend in Harrisburg remembers the scene as well. It was very brief but very effective..

I remember watching this on late night TV back in the 70's. I seem to recall it was on our local CBS channel in Pittsburgh. And, was it not part of a series of SciFi movies? "Killdozer" was another. And another scary one about gremlins: they were stone statutes during the day, but came to life at night. Do you recall that one or any of the others?

Thanks!!!

reply

I remember Killdozer. I've even read the short story it was based on. I believe Theodore Sturgeon wrote it.

If I had to make a guess at the stone gremlins that only come out at night movie, I'd have to say it's something called Gargoyles. Now, I've never seen Gargoyles but I did see the video box in a store like 30 years ago.

Not to be confused with the Disney cartoon of the same name, of course.

And, funny enough, when your reply was posted, I was here:

I was directed there looking for a DVD of Godzilla 1985 and was browsing their catalog.

I actually had that Marvel comic book they mentioned. Found it for like a quarter in a local store called The Money Tree.
