Letterbox Version?

"Beware the Blob!" was released for the movie theaters in a letterbox version (aspect ratio 1.85:1). However, the DVD was released in full screen pan-and-scan (aspect ratio 1.33:1).

Does anyone know if there is a letterbox version DVD available for purchase? If so, where?

Thank you.

Haven't seen one anywhere, mddaddy. All I've been able to find myself is the full-frame p&s transfer.

You might very well think that. I couldn't possibly comment.

it is very possible the film was shot full frame open matte and later cropped for theatrical viewing. So in this sense if you want the most picture the full frame ratio would be it

Just bought this film from Amazon. It was definately filmed "full frame", and then matted for theatres. You can tell by the credits at the beginning, and how much empty space there is at the top of the screen, and the bottom---if you have a widescreen T.V., and the "zoom" feature, you'll get a gorgeous widescreen presentation of the film, that does mask the top and bottom---but that's how it was shown in theatres as well. It's definately not a "pan-and-scan" version. Loved this movie, by the way---great fun!

Thanks for the ZOOM info. I have this and plan to zoom it on my 47" LG. I've done the same with It! The Terror From Beyond Space which is apparently also shot for matted widescreen, and it looked great.
of course, I'd still like to see both films done in widescreen versions on Blu ray with it's HD.

The Region 1 DVD and Blu-ray from Kino Lorber are in the film's original theatrical aspect ration of 1:85:1.
