OMG! This Was Just On! Can’t Believe It!

OMG! Can’t believe that this was on! Woke up early Monday June 7th, 2020, put on the ol’ telly & was browsing my program directory & I saw in the grid “Ben” & I was thinking to myself “Ben? THAT Ben? Nah! It can’t be. Never ever saw it on cable, EVER. That’s not it.” Then I clicked on the selection to view info about the program & that turned out to be it! God I couldn’t believe it!

Man it’s been decades since I last saw this, it was soooo weird to see this after all this time. Totally forgot about most if not all the details of this movie.

The last time I saw this was when it was first run in the theaters as a child & in all that time I don’t think I ever saw it again after that. Can’t begin to describe the feelings I had watching this movie. It seemed so weird seeing this again after all these years, in a sense it didn’t seem real.

This certainly hasn’t held up well, not as well as “Willard” & this is NOT a horror movie by any stretch of the imagination. Again one can say “Willard” was but “Ben” wasn’t. If Disney was into doing grungy stuff that was slightly questionable then you can say that’s what “Ben” was. WOW! This was cheesy, pardon the pun, even for a movie about rats.

There were so many out there things about this, I don’t know where to being. Like the kid serenading Ben to Mikey J’s song with a harmonica. The police actually believing that the kid was aiding & abetting delinquent rats. “Give them up Sonny! Or you’re going to juvy for this!” The so called “horror” moments weren’t even tense.

Like the rats attacking the bully, I mean geez you could’ve made it more graphic than that. Supposedly they attacked but all you see is the kid with band aids on his legs after. Even with the people they did kill, it was bloodless & not frightening in the least. Nickelodeon could’ve done a better job than that.

But what can you say? I’m not gonna lie, I loved this when I was a kid. It was the thing back then & I’ll never regret it, as it was a fond part of my childhood. This is why there are no do-overs. You appreciate things as they are, when they are & that’s that. It’s better that way.

Again it was so surreal to see this after so long ago. When the movie ended only then did I find out that Danny’s sister, cute little Eve was Meredith Baxter! Who knew?

This was a nice little trip down memory lane. This will be shown again early Wednesday morning, June 10th. If I can bring myself to get up then I’ll check it out again. Thanks cable! At least for something.
