He was such a great actor, he could convey comedy, pathos, drama with an expression!
I always enjoy him, but really appreciated the multi faceted layers to his performance in Avanti! which I just saw for the first time....finally.
Agreed. Look how he handles the opening silent sequence. As for the movie - yeah, it's a little long, but I can't really say I was ever bored. 9/10.

susanvancebone and fringomania - jack lemmon's expressions are incredible, i completely agree. sometimes he can even go over the top and be almost cloying. but in avanti, it's perfect. someone else ( i think it's a frequent poster i like named 'ecarle') said lemmon was early on full of energy and late in life bitter/jaded in roles - and this would be smack right in the middle. great timing, great mix of irony and sincerity, and just brilliant expressions and movement. that expression when everyone is staring after the opening bathroom-plane scene - as he straightens out his sleeves and adjusts his neck and juts out his chin - is magnificent.
