What? The Knights Templars overcome by villagers?

At the beginning of the movie, does anyone believe that medieval peasants armed with only torches, staves, and pitchforks, were able to surprise and overcome an organized band of mail-armor clad Templar Knights? According to history these Templar Knights were among the toughest, best-trained, well-armed, and aggressvie fighting men in the Middle East fighting the Saracens. More, these 'captured' knights don't put up any fight and meekly go along with the mob of villagers and just stand there up against the stone pillars without being tied or secured.

I found it laughable to watch the obvious, prop mannequinn dummies being torched while they emit groans and screams. The sound effects of the screams were loaded onto the film in post-filming editing. But it looks and sounds so fake and hokey while watching it. It's so bad it's funny to watch.
