What A Brilliant Twist Ending!

Wouldn't you all agree that Asylum has one of the most brilliant twist endings ever!

To think, when I first watched that movie as a kid back in the seventies, I never dreamed that Robert Powell would get killed off in it!

Why can't they make more anthology movies like that? Amicus were great at this sort of thing!

That ending was very shocking and unexpected. I thought Powell was going to figure out who Dr. Starr was and get the job myself. The filmmakers were very bold in their decision to kill him off instead. The demented orderly's evil laugh qualifies as the chilling icing on a really startling cake.

Q: What's the biggest room in the world? A: The room for improvement.

I totally agree. It was one of the most chilling twist endings I have ever seen!

I will be the one to disagree, I saw the twist ending the entire way. At least I figured out who was who...didn't naturally see how it would all end up in terms of what would happen to Powell. But then again this is only b/c I have first seen this as a jaded 27 year old viewer. Don't get me wrong, I liked this anthology quite a bit, just didn't find the twist to be shocking or brilliant...but it WAS fun!

I do think that if I had had a chance to see this when I was a young and impressionable kid it most definitely would have left an indelible impression with me.

Patients running an Asylum is a very old cliche, even for 1972.

It was a brilliant ending to an excellent film. I miss the era of anthologies with those lo-fi thrills. 8/10 stars from me.

I myself expected Dr. Rutherford to be revealed as Starr. It was a great twist, I agree. This is undoubtedly one of the better Amicus anthology movies.

Not really. I smelled that ending from a mile away. May be it was a twist back in 1972 but I have seen far too many movies with similiar "twist" - this is like the "I am your father" twist.

It is a great twist ending. The 70's were so good for having those kinds of deliciously downbeat resolutions.

What do you think this is, a signature? It's a way of life!

I loved it too. I never expected that Max would be revealed to be Dr. Starr. I was sure it was Byron because he seemed so intelligent making those dolls.
