What a disgusting woman.

Did anyone else come to hate Chloe?

I've known women like this in the past, and like the cancers they are, you can't help but grow a dislike for them, whether you're only involved platonically, and definitely if you have a romantic attachment.

Her bragging, attempts to induce jealousy- by lies, as was implied-, idiotic sophisms, her putting him 'on the hook' whenever she desired, and everything else. Every facet of her personality was utterly dislikeable. I believe Rohmer played it absolutely perfectly by casting a beautiful woman such as Zouzou for the part. A real contrast; a devilish, hateful person, with the look of Aphrodite. Brilliant.

Also, a comment on the 'intellectual' fascination with this women: it was dead on the mark. He was, presumably at least, a somewhat experienced man with women, though we don't know this for sure- it is merely hinted that he has lost interest (after a period of saturation?)- yet he fell hook, line and sinker for her mental games, her subtle manipulation, and the way she burrowed under his skin like a tic. I don't believed this worked entirely due to her previous acquaintance with him; no- I believe it worked due to the combination already mentioned- the beautiful exterior, and the cancerous, virus-like propagation of her personage. He saw, and commented on what was happening, when it did, and everything else- yet he kept seeing her.

Incredibly real, overall. Incredibly, incredibly real.
