wow

i know its a given for any Alice film but wow this fooooooks with your head, especially if it is watched before you go to sleep, it's not just the story but the entire intense atmosphere that this and other english films of a similar period (in which there made not set)(eg Company of wolves) has, its a qiet surreal setting with only vocal, major sound effects and the score being present, theres no fake ambient sound that everyone is used to in film- crowd noises etc. Also its more like theatre than cinema in a way, the films not reliant on shot angles and special effects but the effect of the actors and the music, wow

Truth be told, this is a tiresome film, with a pedestrian mucial score. For a more satisfying artistic exploration of Lewis Carroll's work, or rather his obsession with the young Alice Liddell, the girl who inspired both Alice in Wonderland and Through The Looking Glass, try Tom Waits's album Alice and, should you get the chance, the stage version that he scored for musical theatre director Robert Wilson.
