Really want a nice restored version in widescreen.

I just found this movie on Netflix and remembered seeing it numerous times as a kid on HBO and the fact that we recorded it on VHS. Just viewing this film online, it is painful to note that we need a US Widescreen Edition that has been fully restored. In many of the scenes the floating pan & scan across the 2.39:1 print looks terrible and obvious. I was wondering if anybody knew of a future release of this on DVD or BlueRay in widescreen?

reply

So far, no word. Some new editions were released to cash in on the new Alice movie, but they were very much re-packagings of previous editions. (I believe the new US edition added subtitles, but that's going off of a notice on Amazon.com, and not a review of the product.)

What we see and what we seem are but a dream. A dream within a dream.

I bought a region free edition from Australia. It's an actual remastered print presented in widescreen with remastered audio. Colors and image are cleaned up, and the audio is actual digital stereo.

You can get it from Australia or the UK.

I need to try that Aussie version, unless it's just similar to the version released in the UK by Oracle. Anybody know...?

I have pretty much all the others. There's one put out by ACME TV (ebay seller) that I use now over the Oracle. It's region free, Oracle is not.

reply

It's an official restoration with color correction, anamorphic transfer, and remastered soundtrack. The widescreen is full anamorphic 2.35:1 widescreen transfer.

Right, the Force Video version. It doesn't seem to be available anywhere.

I think they may have gone out of business since I got mine.
