Shout Factory Blu-Ray

Just popped this sucker into the player for the first time after having been raised on the Anchor Bay DVD. First thing I noticed was a substituted opening image of a mountaintop (absent are the hundreds of extras). There is another shot inserted after the first two that's not in any previous versions. The biggest offense, however, is the inclusion of credits over the footage of the roaring river! I was shocked. Totally diminished the potency of those shots. Why has no one commented on this?

Seriously?

That shot of the raging river (two shots in a row I believe) is great with the eerie music.

Any changes made should have been approved by Herzog, is there a new commentary for the blu-ray or the same one as the previous DVD?

I think it's fine, but since this is my 1st version, I really don't know what I'm missing.

I just ordered the Blu-Ray.

Will try to watch with an open mind.

Ok so I got done watching the movie for the first time on Blu-Ray, and the opening scene is still pretty much the same, the extras are all there, that shot of the basket falling that I think you are referring to are in previous versions of the film.

The opening credit titles over the roaring river is something you're right about though, but the scene still has the same beauty and effect as it did before.

I think the Shout Factory release looks much sharper in details. That was the first I noticed differ from the German bluray version.

Shout is worst of the three. German has mediocre compression. Shout has miserable compression and the image is washed out with elevated blacks. BFI has normal picture like the German and excellent compression.
