reply

Yeah, I "know". ;-)

Sadly Wenders hasn't done anything that artsy AND good again.
But I really treasure his "Don't Come Knocking", "Until the End of the World" (DC) and also like "Paris, Texas".

I'm afraid I find it very difficult to rank my favorites (Hell, it's difficult enough picking favourites, but here goes), so this is gonna be in alphabetical order.

Honerable mentions: 'Theatre of Blood' (Hickox), 'Kiss Me Deadly' (Aldrich), 'The General' (Keaton), 'Back to the Future' (Zemeckis) and 'Magnolia' (Anderson)

MY PERSONAL 100 FILMS-http://www.imdb.com/list/iFa7p7uwsr8/

reply

My all time top ten as of 2009. I haven't revisited my list since then. May or may not be a bit different now...

In chronological order (it would be very difficult for me to put these in order of favorite -- they're all absolutely incredible):

Enfants du paradis, Les (1945) Marcel Carne
Buono, il brutto, il cattivo, Il (1966) Sergio Leone
 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) Stanley Kubrick
 Patton (1970) Franklin J. Schaffner
Aguirre, der Zorn Gottes (1972) Werner Herzog
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (1975) Milos Forman
'Breaker' Morant (1980) Bruce Beresford
 Blade Runner (1982) Ridley Scott
 Unforgiven (1992) Clint Eastwood
 Pulp Fiction (1994) quentin Tarantino

Unlike most of my favorites, my feeling for Aguirre is based 95% on my first viewing. It was in a little art theater on Pearl St. in Boulder, CO -- probably in or near 1975. The audience was quiet throughout. I was totally mesmerized throughout. When I walked out of the theater, I actually just started walking around in a small, maybe eight foot, circle on the pedestrian mall, letting my mind remain in the state it was in. A state I had never before experienced.

By the way, I've come to believe that surrealism, if you will, is enhanced by having to read subtitles. By not knowing the spoken language.

As you can see!

I have a list of about 80 movies that stuck with me that's on my profile, but I don't have time to single out 20 right now.
