Happy 4th to you. I am watching "1776" as I type this reply. Am listening to the sad and beautiful "MAMA" Paul from BRAINTREE MA 2 miles from John Adams's birthplace.

One of my favorite movie musicals. So happy to introduce my son to it this year.

That song knocks me out every viewing. I almost can't stand it.

This movie will be airing on Turner Classic Movies on July 4th, 2013 at 10:30 pm Pacific and 1:30 am Eastern. Get your DVR ready. Happy Independence Day!

I'm watching it as part of my annual tradition. And ALWAYS, it is the Laser Disc cut, the only true version of the film as far as I'm concerned.

reply

Love to see that version, but alas, I don't have either the Laser or a player. Wish there was a way to transfer it to a DVD!

How sad, that you were not born in my time, nor I, in yours.

Going to see it on the big screen at a local theatre in Atlanta tomorrow! First time I get to do that since I was still in diapers when it first came out in 1972.

I'm jealous!

Last time I saw it on a big screen was in 1976 -- twice that summer -- once in the basement theater and once at a movie house called The Flick!

Just finished watching again. I love this movie, and I'm always amazed at how William Daniels manages to make a man who is "obnoxious and disliked" and make him so sympathetic. Very impressive all around.

reply

Currently watching on Antenna TV. I hope it's complete.
