Momma and Vietnam

The beautifully haunting Momma, Look Sharp fits perfectly into the 1960s-70s period when the play and the film were at their most popular. It was a great protest piece for the Vietnam War. Still is. Listening to it made us see, in a way more touching than the actual nightly news footage, what young men dying while politicians one-upped one another looked like. Back then it was my favorite song from the show. I'm noticing now, after being divorced a very long time, that I look forward more to the songs between Abigail and John. Even measled children sound romantic when they communicate.
