Saltpeter and Abigail Adams

Whoever thought that I could ever get sentimental thinking about saltpeter.

I just love the little bits in this movie between John and Abigail but for some reason, I especially love their back and forth over the saltpeter. I don't know why but I always get misty eyed over the "Compliments" song.

Abigail
Compliments of the Concord Ladies Coffee Club!
And The Sisterhood of the True Rose Synagogue!
And The Friday Evening Baptist Sewing Circle!
And the Holy Christian Sisters of St. Claire!
All for you, John! I am, as I ever was, and ever shall be
Yours! Yours! Yours! Yours!

Adams
Abigail. What's in these kegs?

Abigail
Saltpeter! John!

I just love how she raises her hand in the air at the end, while hundreds of miles away, he raises his hand to "catch" hers.

She truly was an amazing person.... they were both amazing.

I agree with you 100%, nannyjo. I liked Virginia Vestoff, and she had good chemistry with William Daniels.

I had the opportunity to see Miss Vestoff perform live, in an Off Broadway musical called I'm Getting My Act Together and Taking It on the Road:

Must have been around 1979. She was terrific. Interestingly, Betty Buckley, who played Martha Jefferson in the original Broadway production of 1776 also took a turn as lead in that same show.

By the way, I don't mean to annoy you, but thought you might like to know that what you interpreted as 'True Rose' is actually 'Truro,' which is the name of a town in Massachusetts, on Cape Cod. But I think she made a little mistake and should have said 'Touro,' as there is a famous synagogue by that name in Newport, Rhode Island:

Cheers.

No that is not annoying, at all. Thank you for the correction - I appreciate it.

Actually, I just copied and pasted from a "lyrics site."

I'm a little south of Massachusetts, in Pennsylvania, so I was not aware Truro or Touro.

Thank you :o)
