Is anybody there...? Does anybody care...?

Does anybody see what I see...?

Still gives me chills...

reply

Yes Mr. Adams...

I do!

Well played, number9... 

The song gives me chills. I love the profoundly honest beauty of the lyrics. The conviction and passion heard in William Daniels performance. That song gives me chills every time I hear it!

The neat thing about this musical is very often (although not always), you are hearing lines and lyrics taken from the real people's writings.

In a sense, you are hearing the Patriots speaking in their original voices through the characters representing them.

This is what John Adams wrote in a letter to Abigail on the 3rd of July, 1776, after the vote affirming American Independence on the 2nd:

I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated, by succeeding Generations, as the great anniversary Festival. It ought to be commemorated, as the Day of Deliverance by solemn Acts of Devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with Pomp and Parade, with Shews, Games, Sports, Guns, Bells, Bonfires and Illuminations from one End of this Continent to the other from this Time forward forever more.

-not exactly word for word, but its essence is in that song.
