German version is by far the best.

I have seen the english and german versions of this film (this is one of my favorite films)

Luckily for me i grew up learning both languages (parents are german but i grew up in south africa, i live in germany now though)

The german version is by far the funnier version! The difference is actually quite phenomenal. I hardly laughed in the english version and in the german version i literally have to press pause because i cannot breathe. Im not exagerating there, I actually cannot breathe (especially in the resturaunt)

There are extra lines that the german translators added that just make it so much more enjoyable.

If you can speak both languages like me watch the german one :)

Oh and btw i normally watch every single movie in its original language (japanese movies in japanese with subs, etc etc) Except bud spencer and terrence hill movies. In german they are far superior.

i bought this one and the first part in german today. i watched them for the first time ever these last 2 days in english. i will watch em in german tomorrow. i have seen other hill/spencer movies in german and i can imagine what you mean. however i thought the first movie to have quite a dirty sense of humour with jokes bout their mother being a prostitute. I can not imagine it being funnier or that dirty in german.

Are you familiar with a lot of German and European-Westerns ?
If so, what are your favorite German westerns ? Thanks for any
help.

Well good for people who acutally speak german then. I guess the rest of the world will not get the "german jokes". Or perhaps you think that german is a universal language?

But it's not only the extra lines (many of them spoken when the character is off-screen or when you don't see his mouth), it's also the creative slang, especially in brawn words! They way they call each other or describe things is hilarious! Generations of germans fed on their sound bites.

I am pretty sure that the german dubbing is responsible for the immense success in germany. Almost everybody loved their movies (not only the westerns, everything that had both "Buddy & Terry" in it) and it was watched by entire families. Especially the people that watched them when they were kids are especially fond of them and still praise them sky-high.

"Generations of germans fed on their sound bites. "

So did others...

Sure, Rainer Brandt did great work on those movies. He was also responsible for some of the German Louis De Funes dubs and I think it shows. The dubbing voices they used were also great and another reason for the huge success here.

If you really want to hear the difference, there are 2 versions of "Vier FΓ€uste FΓΌr Ein Halleluja". The version shown in cinemas had an accurate dub and it was later re-dubbed for home theater use. I have a big DVD box with their movies and it came with both versions. It's like watching 2 different movies.

the swedish vhs rental release of this has the most extraordinary subtitles i have ever seen, there are tiny yellow letters and i have never come across any other movie subtitled in the same style. in the first trinity movie their parents are only mentioned but this sequel actually features their parents, and i've read their 1994 movie "the troublemakers" (botte di natale) was suppose to be a third trinity movie but there were rights issues, they still play brothers though, and their "ma" has a part, i think it was also hill's and spencer's first western movie since this. funny this has a kid in it named ebenezer, the only time i've heard that name outside of the christmas carol story (scrooge), and this includes a dinner scene very similar to the dinner scene in "the blues brothers" (1980). when trinity jumps off the wall and kisses the girl they act as if it were the first time though it had happened earlier in the film, also notice they go back and forth with both the drape and the money bag. i thought the card shark would have a bigger part and play the main villain.
