On a scale of 1 to 10 I'd give it an 8.5 in terms of being wholesome with 10 the best a show can do. Lot's of households back when the show ran did not allow the use of alcohol with zero discussion held on the subject. In the first season we have Grandpa all too willing to imbibe moonshine made by the neighbor ladies. Also, many of these same households had a zero tolerance policy in terms of any criticism of religion. In the first season we had a very human minister portrayed who could not hold his alcohol. I guess getting more to the point we had some serious violence such as in the Season 1 episode The Dust Bowl Cousins where cousin Job tries to run John Boy in with a pitch fork. I guess that the bottom line is for me if I were a parent in 1972 I would let the kids watch the show but be ready with analysis to be spread to them as to what they were seeing.
