Why bother as unless you wanted to be completely unrealistic that kid would have run away from home so there would have been no evolving story line. Even if the family was accepting that kid would have been treated very harshly in the community. Just not a topic for that kind of show. Discussing homosexuality was not unheard of back then on American television thus there were better venues for that topic. Would have been better if done on Good Times, One Day at a Time, 8 is Enough, or something similar in tone. If I were Eric Scott or Jon Walmsley and saw such a script I would have gone to Earl Hamner and asked if I was being written out of the show.
