Watch Iron King

I've been on a serious kick lately for these tokusatsu shows. And I've stumbled on a gem that Ultraman fans should really check out. It's called Iron King. It's an obvious direct competator, but it doesn't take long to see that this show has a very different flavor. Rather then it being this clean cut team of "Science Patrollers," There are just two primary characters. The primary character, Gentaro, is this sort of wandering cowboy guy, who is sent out by a special agency to single handedly defeat a massive terrorist outfit. He is rash. He is violent. He treats women TERRIBLY. And he SINGS! Then there's his bumbling, red white and blue clad side kick Goro. This is the one who actually turns into the giant (and hydro powered) Iron King. So the character dynamic is way different, and a little less kid friendly, over all. That and you'll notice a very different approach to a lot of the special effects. This show never shys away from using over sized monster props with humans, or miniature figures for when a lone human fights a giant robot! Check it out!
