Cuthbertson

Does anyone else think that the programme implies Cuthbertson has a bit of a crush on Flashman? Think about it. He willingly goes to Flashman's study where he knows he's going to be bullied. The school is surrounded by fields so he could easily go and hide. The way he leans in close to Flashman when he talks to him is quite telling. Or is it just my dirty mind? Perhaps Cuthbertson secretly enjoys it....? Certainly the writer is aware of the sexual pleasure involved in beating by the way Flashman refers to Brook being like the Marquis De Sade. There are quite a few references in the series to botties and backsides.

Yes,I agree.Cuthbertson-just coincidence shared that name with the leading actor?

In fact looking at it after all these years I'm quite surprised by how gleefully sadistic much of it is, if only in the dialogue, talking about botties and backsides and so on. Would hardly be allowed now. Even the bit where Flashman makes the older lad kiss his boots is somewhat fetishistic.
