Streets vs Mannix

If you watch both shows. Whats the big difference between the two shows. Since both were major shows at that time.

One was about sworn officers of a city Police Force, the other was about a private investigator.

Police vs private eye. Both feature some gorgeous scenery. Great shows!

Agreed. I always loved Mannix and I am working my way thru Streets. Karl and Michael have great chemistry as did Karl and Ricahrd in Season 5. I love how he always called Michael Buddy Boy.

There would have been less difference had MANNIX kept Joseph Campanella in the cast, which gave the first season an older man authority figure paired with a slightly younger man relationship. But Campanella was cut after the first season, and the two shows diverge from there with really no similarities.

The series that bears the most striking resemblance to STREETS OF SAN FRANCISCO is HAWAII FIVE-O with it being a cop show and featuring McGarrett and Danno in a partnership similar to Stone and Keller.

A better series to compare to MANNIX is THE ROCKFORD FILES. Those series overlapped one season in 1974-75 and it's as if Jim Rockford took the baton from Joe Mannix, setting the detective genre squarely in the '70s. (One can argue that Rockford in turn passed the baton to Thomas Magnum in the '80s.).

A good topic that set me thinking about some of my favorite shows. I love 'em all, especially the Quinn Martin productions from the late-1960s/early '70s.

Very astute, and I totally agree. I loved Rockford and then Magnum. But I never really thought about how there was effectively a passing of the genre torch from one to the other. Nice observation!
