The show's theme song…unjustly overlooked!

When great TV show theme songs are mentioned, the one from this show should be mentioned. The sax solo in the middle really makes it stand out and be cool. I've looked all over for a recording with no luck, does anyone know where one can be found?

Bear in mind this was an action series from the Seventies. All of their theme songs tended to be a little loud, some of them even became hits ("SWAT", "Starsky & Hutch", "The Rockford Files", "Baretta").

Yeah, I always thought Jackson looked better on this show and on "Scarecrow and Mrs. King" than she did on "Charlie's Angels". I liked the second "S&H" theme (also known as "Gotcha" by Tom Scott), the original theme of that show was bland to me and I really hated the one they had in their final season. "The Rookies" was an okay show for me, I wouldn't say it was great (thought Michael Ontkean's Willie was too goody-goody and too liberal now that I look back at it, Bruce Fairbairn's Chris was a better character), but I liked it and LOVED the theme song.

All this time and I never knew that the theme was composed by the legendary Elmer Bernstein!

I was 8 years old in 1972 and my friends and I thought that this was the coolest show and that that was the coolest theme song. We role plyed the actors. Nobody wanted to be Danko because he was an old married man.

The rookies was on Monday nights on ABC. They had a great line up. The rookies at 8pm. Then SWAT at 9pm and then there was a show called "Caribe" with Stacey Keach at 10Pm. I seem to remember that the show started to go into decline when they messed with that line up.

Anyway, I got the DVD and the theme song is still the coolest!

Seriously----who cares how liberal someone was on a cop show? Tired of tired-a** right-wingers always bitching and whining about "liberals this, liberal that". Damn! Just leave your damn political views out of this. And, yeah, the show's theme was the theme to end all bad-a** show themes, lol. It was lean, mean and in-your-face---loved it!

Look for it at Mark Little my themes.tv. This link/website has almost practically a plethora of tv themes past and present!

Weren't all 70's themes great???? Seriously, this is an awesome theme. I'd never seen the show. Too young when it was on. I saw the intro on YouTube & heard the theme & bought the DVD!! Solid cop show too. Lighter than Kojak or Police Story but very entertaining.

A lot of them sure were. The Rookies certainly qualifies as one of them!🚨
