Still rookies after four years?

After the first season, I always wondered why the show was still called "The Rookies". After one year at anything, you're no longer a rookie, let alone four.

I was wondering why 30ish people were rookies. They all had been in their jobs for some time.

No two persons ever watch the same movie.

I wondered that too. They always seemed a little old to be rookies. I could buy it if it were one of them, but all three? Kent McCord on Adam-12 made a much more realistic rookie.

The age didn't matter to me. I remember a man in Chicago became a rookie cop at 40! I was just wondering why the show was still called "The Rookies" after its first year.

In one of the early shows Lt. Ryker mentions that "Rookies" have a two year probationary period. This is T.V time this can drag on for several years.

At the start of season 3 Willie has left and a brand new "rookie" named Chris has joined. They aren't still rookies as Sam Melville's character is going for a Sergeant role.
