From Russia With love

As a kid in the 70s it bothered me that a short scene in the credits seemed to have been copied from the Bond film From Russia With Love. I was never sure if it was the original (re-framed of course) or not.

I just got the DVDs and the commentary reveals that it was indeed footage "borrowed" from FRWL.

I wonder how they got away with that, or at least got permission, especially from a Bond film. They weren't even by the same company.

I always thought it must have been "inspired by". If you are going to re-use some action footage, I'd have thought that it was wise to lift it from a good scene in an obscure film or TV show, not something so recognisable.

The director also reveals that the car roll in the credits was of a genuine accident, during filming The Saint.

Also I'm pretty sure that the girl swimming underwater in a white bikini is from Thunderball, but I can't be bothered to look for the shot. The grain certainly betrays that the shot has been lifted from a "scope" film.
