Come on down!

You are the first four CAREFULLY selected contestants on the Price is Right!

Producer Stan Blits wrote a book in which he predicted that if contestants were not "CAREFULLY SELECTED", that the show wouldn't have lasted more than a season.

They are looking for stage presence and personality. Stan interviews every contestant, in groups of 30, for about 20 seconds. During the interview you're wearing a red number under your yellow nametag, so they can cross-reference to your registration sheet and know your last name. Just before the cameras are rolling, they ask the audience to pull off your red numbers. By this time, the Producers already have their list of 9 contestants. But they are still watching you, and based on your audience enthusiasm, he can still add/drop/swap someone from his list.

They tell the audience that they're watching during the show, which encourages everyone to act extra crazy, and be helpful!
