'Cover-Up' strategy

Today's 'Cover-Up' was a prime example of how using strategy would really help. The first digit was obvious: 1, not 3. Likewise, the second digit was pretty surely 6, not 0 or 3. The rest of the digits are all pot luck, as always. The woman placed the 1 and the 6 right off, and got all but the third digit correct on her first guess. She was then left to pick the right third digit from among three remaining, with only one shot. And she missed. But if she'd saved, say, the correct second digit (6), putting it in on the second guess would've given her another chance at the third digit. She might've even saved BOTH of the first two for "extra assurance" (using one on each successive turn) -- in this case, ending up with a "sure thing"! Doing THAT is a bit risky, though, as the probability of getting at least one of the last three digits correct on the first guess is .5 -- one-half. But saving AT LEAST one of the first two digits for a later guess certainly would've helped her!

I would get the first one correct and then get the 2nd one incorrect and then just pick on the other 3 and if you get it correct then that's just a bonus because then you know you can get the 2nd one correct on the 2nd time through and then decrease the numbers of the other the rest of the way.
