The annoying Globetrotter episodes

I love this show. There were plenty of great ones, but frankly, the Harlem Globetrotters almost ruined this show to the realms of Scrappy-Doo watchablility. I really hated those because they were never funny like Don Knotts, nor was there any reason for them to be in at least three different episodes of this series. Does anyone else out there hate those episodes, or if you like them, please tell me why. I'd love to know.

Yes, they were incredibly annoying and not funny. Plus they weren't painted black (or brown), they were a horrid gray.

I like them because it's Scooby-Doo! Simple...

As others have noted, the Globetrotters were very popular back then and they also had their own Saturday morning cartoon (before the Super Globetrotters and before some Popcorn real life thing as well).

The first Globetrotters cartoon had some pretty fun adventures and a sensational tune of whistling (no, it wasn't 'Sweet Georgia Brown'. That was the Globetrotters own theme. The cartoon had a different tune where they would whistle, then go "Hey!" -- "What?" then they would repeat the Globetrotters name a couple of times.

Wonderful tune.

As to the scooby team ups, I have no idea why there are three and only one Speed Buggy (who was flat out owned by HB) or one Josie and the Pussycats (who were owned by Archie).

The globetrotters cartoons have their problems, as do most of the Scoobie movies, but they also have some high points as well.

One of them does show Shaggy's uncle.

In another one, whether it was always this way or not, I don't know, but we are thru nearly half the adventure before the audio is turned up. I think we only hear voices and music, no sound effects. I don't know if this is how the cartoon is left or if this was a Cartoon Network error.

In another globetrotters cartoon, we get a far away shot of the trotters van and we can plainly see Granny sitting in the van. Anyone who remembers the cartoon knows that Granny and the dog, Dribbles, didn't appear in the Scooby movies, tho they were referred to in one adventure.

But also, we get some wonderful voice work with the globetrotters.

Meadowlark Lemon was voiced by the late Scatman crothers, and Bobby Joe was voiced (I never knew this) by Eddie "Rochester" Anderson, perhaps one of the last things he did.

They are a difficult watch, but they are no worse than any of the other Scooby movies.

Some do rise above the animation and plot, such as Knotts, Winters and Diller, but that is just who they are.

They were trying to make up for all the black people that they never put in scooby doo episodes.

The Globtrotters were good and yet, they were the only three time guest stars and the only ones to appear in both seasons (in back to back episodes as a matter of fact). Anyway, the Globtrotters episodes were good but, I have to say that three shows was just a little to much.

I didnt really mind the globetrotter episodes, but they werent my favs.No real reason why but it was scooby doo anyways so the stars were only guests,i really watched it for the gang anyways.

reply

What the heck? The Globetrotter episodes are some of the best ones!

reply

I think the cartoon Harlem Globetrotters were a fun team-up with the Mystery Incorporated gang, but three hour-long episodes was too much of a good thing.

If I could wave Vincent Van Ghoul's magic wand I'd cram the best aspects of the three into one solid episode and cast new guest stars in the other two.

It made things seem a bit crowded and seemed ridiculous that all those people couldn't just turn around and take on the bad guy. Josie and the Pussycats was nearly as bad. Seems like 10+ people could just turn around and chase the villain.

so am I. Dixie is pretty well known for our racism, aren't we, such as OJ Simpson verdict, Rodney King, Al Sharpton, Louis Farrakhan, Tawana Brawley.

Oh, wait, NONE of those were from the sayuth, wuz they? Nevermind they all came to prominence AFTER the civil rights era, everyone who took a side in those situations has since moved on and put it behind them. I always love that bit.

Well, there was Trayvon Martin. Oh, wait, George Zimmerman aint no slow-drawl-talking white man, is he? So that one don't count, plus Florida isn't regarded as deep south, either.

Or do you wish to hold up that law about slavery found in the Ssip? Yes, EVERYONE in the Ssip knew about that one, didn't we? We are that clever, aren't we?

But ya gotta ask yerself there, friend, if we knew about a 100+ slave law still on the books and told no one but quietly chuckled to ourselves about it, what else could there possibly be that we know about and NO ONE else does?

Heh-heh-heh-heh-heh!

Suddenly the suh-thuh-nuhs aint so stupid anymore, eh, if we are able to pull the wool over everyone's eyes like that, huh, friend?
